WHAT IS CAREER
EDUCATION?
Career education programs provide secondary students with the
knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience to further their education
and employment opportunities.
The goal of Career Education is to help prepare students
for successful employment when they leave the school system. The B.C. Ministry of Education
has designated career development competencies as part of the 2004
Graduation Program. In their
career development, Tamanawis graduates should achieve:
- the confidence and competencies they need to be self-directed
individuals who display initiative, set priorities, establish goals,
and take responsibility for pursuing those goals in an ever-changing
society,
- knowledge and understanding of the range of career choices available
to them, the prospects for success in those careers, and the actions
required to pursue specific career paths,
- experience in planning for, and working towards, career and life
goals,
- the skills required to work effectively and safely with others, and
to succeed both as individual and collaborative workers.

2010:
The Future of Education
in the Surrey
School District
1. Provide quality educational programming.
2. Involve parents and the community.
3. Nurture morally and socially responsible citizens.
4. Prepare graduates for the multiple roles of their futures
Preparing students for post-secondary life and work success is the
ultimate goal of their education experience from Kindergarten to grade
12. The beginning of the 21st century is marked by the growing economic
need for careers in the trades and the awareness of the pervasive role
of technology in all aspects of present and future work and global
communication needs.
