Please come to our Open House at the Aboriginal Resource Centre on Tuesday, November 24th from 2:30 - 5:00 pm.  There will be a traditional welcome at 3:00 pm.  We will have displays of resources for all grade levels and of course door prizes and refreshments.  The Open House will give teachers the opportunity to view the various resources our library has to offer so that they may borrow items or purchase them through LRS.

Congratulations to Kennedy Trail Elementary and Tamanawis Secondary for being recognized by the Aboriginal Enhancement Schools Network.  Both schools will receive a $500 grant.

"We really value the work you are doing in bringing the goals of your Enhancement Agreement to life, in bringing Aboriginal culture and way of knowing into your classrooms."

On November 11, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.  Jan Gladish, Aboriginal Helping Teacher, has put together some resources to honour our Aboriginal veterans.

Jan also highly recommends the following resource to classroom teachers.

The war proved that the fighting spirit of my tribe was not squelched through reservation life. When duty called, we were there, and when we were called forth to fight for the cause of civilization, our people showed all the bravery of our warriors of old. Excerpt from "Native Soldiers – Foreign Battlefields" from Veteran Affairs Canada – a highly recommended text resource available online  Click here to access it.

About this Website
This website was created so that Aboriginal teachers, support staff and facilitators can create opportunities so that all students have opportunities to learn about Aboriginal Culture (Cultural Presentation link).  This website is also a way in which we can inform students about scholarship opportunities and share community resource information with our Aboriginal families.

The Staff Locator link helps parents locate and contact Aboriginal Support staff in our schools.  Most importantly, this website is meant to share the many successes of our Aboriginal students (see Photo Gallery link).

For more information about this website, please contact Nadine McSpadden (mcspadden_N@sd36.bc.ca) or Jan Gladish (gladish_j@sd36.bc.ca)
